5Art Basel Miami 2024: My Top Event Picks and Experiences
Art Basel Miami is more than just an art fair; it’s a cultural phenomenon where art, music, and nightlife converge to create unforgettable experiences. This year, I explored the vibrant scene and attended some of the most highly anticipated events. Here’s my ranking and recap of the top experiences I had during Art Basel 2024.
1. Adam Port Electrifies Lot 11 Skatepark (December 5th)
Adam Port’s set at Lot 11 Skatepark was the highlight of my Art Basel experience. The raw energy of the crowd combined with Port’s eclectic beats made this an unforgettable night. The skatepark setting added an urban edge that perfectly complemented the underground vibe of his music. From start to finish, Adam Port had the crowd moving, creating a communal energy that felt both intimate and electric. This is not even including the fact that Travis Scott and the rest of the Keinemusik boys (&Me and Rampa) made an appearance! The bathrooms and bars had virtually no traffic so you were able to get drinks and use the bathroom within a reasonable amount of time, which made for an even better experience! If you’re a fan of fresh, dynamic soundscapes, afro-house with a blend of Latin reggaeton, Arabic, and Tribal sounds, then this event was a must-attend.
2. Fisher’s Explosive Performance at Factory Town (December 6th)
Factory Town transformed into a pulsating hub of energy with Fisher’s high-octane performance. His signature house beats kept the crowd hyped, and the industrial vibe of the venue was the perfect backdrop for his electrifying sound. This event felt like a party that just wouldn’t quit—Fisher delivered hit after hit, proving why he’s a fan favorite. For those seeking an unforgettable dance experience, this was the place to be. The best part? It ended at 7am with the sunrise!
3. &ME and Rampa Create Magic at Island Gardens (December 6th)
The stunning waterfront location of Island Gardens elevated the synergy of &ME and Rampa. Their seamless back-to-back (b2b) set was a melodic journey, blending deep house, afro house, and ethereal rhythms. The views of the Miami skyline paired with their music made for a surreal experience. While more laid-back compared to other events, the atmosphere was nothing short of enchanting and offered a serene escape during the bustling week. There were some things I was disappointed with. For starters, there were only about 10-15 bars, which was incredibly disorganized as there were no lines or structure to getting you drinks and clearly was not enough bars for the event. The second is that the crowd that they typically draw are foreigners therefore the vibe is not the same as a typical EDM or House music set. Regardless of this, the music is excellent and if you find a good spot, you will enjoy yourself a lot. The key here is finding a good spot where people aren’t going to bump into you and you are able to dance.
4. Golfos and Mayan Warrior Dazzle at Factory Town (December 5th)
The Factory Town venue once again delivered an immersive experience with Golfos and Mayan Warrior. Known for their visually stunning stage setups and eclectic sound, this event showcased creativity and musical talent. However, compared to the sheer energy of Adam Port or Fisher, this night felt slightly more subdued. Nonetheless, it was still an impressive showcase of artistry and performance. The music here is also excellent and the crowd is a little bit better than the Keinemusik crowd. I was pleasantly surprised by the DJs that Mayan Warrior brought to their stage. It felt like they were remixing a lot of popular melodic techno songs, particularly from the Afterlife label. It was a pleasant surprise! I would definitely keep my eye out for their next event or if I see them at a future music festival.
5. Black Coffee’s Iconic Set at Space Miami (December 4th)
Space Miami hosted the legendary Black Coffee, kicking off my Art Basel experience. His set was soulful and masterful as always, blending deep house with Afrobeat influences. However, the club’s crowded ambiance made it challenging to fully immerse in the music. The main room was really crowded and reminded me a bit of the crowd at Hï Ibiza. Check out that link for my review on the “Number 1 club in the world” and you will see exactly what I mean. The good part about Space Miami is that they have a second room right next to the first one with a fairly decent view of the DJ where you have substantially more space and can dance the night away. A BIG contrast to Hï Ibiza which does not have this option as they oversell and overcrowd the rooms to the point where I at least could safely assume it was a fire hazard. Shoulder to shoulder from the front to the exit? Yeah, I think that’s a fire hazard.
Despite this, it was a treat to witness his artistry live, setting the tone for an exciting week ahead. The added bonus? Space Miami is open 24 hours!
